FAQ
-
What are CPD Points and Credits? Many institutions and professional bodies set annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD) targets. These targets are met by participating in CPD activities such as training courses, eLearning, events, and other structured learning opportunities. Typically, professional bodies use CPD hours as the standard measurement. In cases where CPD points or credits are used, they generally follow a 1:1 ratio with CPD hours. This means that 1 CPD point is equivalent to 1 CPD hour.
-
How should I manage my time for CPD activities? To effectively manage time for CPD activities, start by assessing your annual requirements and focusing on skills that align with your career goals. Prioritize activities that provide immediate value and balance formal learning (courses, seminars) with informal learning (reading, networking). Create a regular CPD schedule by setting aside dedicated time each week or month, and break down larger tasks into manageable steps. Leverage technology like calendars or time-tracking apps to stay organized and flexible. Finally, periodically review your progress and adjust your plan as your needs evolve, ensuring a consistent and productive approach to CPD.
-
How should I allocate my CPD time? Most institutions and professional bodies permit members to select subjects that are relevant to their interests, though some will mandate CPD training in a specified range of core subjects. It is essential for all professionals to know how to record their CPD activities and understand the required amount of learning time for their role each year. Generally, it is recommended that at least 50% of CPD be completed in a structured or active learning environment.
-
What does the CPD cycle entail? The CPD Cycle is a practical framework designed to help individuals structure their Continuing Professional Development throughout the year, allowing them to identify and measure improvements in work-related skills and knowledge. The CPD Cycle consists of five key stages essential for planning professional development activities: Identifying Your Needs: Determine the areas where development is needed. Planning: Outline a strategy for addressing these needs. Acting/Doing: Engage in CPD activities to develop the identified skills. Reflecting on Learning: Evaluate what has been learned and its impact. Implementing Your New Learning: Apply the acquired knowledge and skills in your professional role.
